Exercise for Parkinson's Disease

Exercise is key to a healthy and productive life.

For people with Parkinson’s, exercise has reported benefits for controlling motor and non-motor symptoms alongside the use of pharmacological intervention. For example, exercise prolongs independent mobility and improves sleep, mood, memory and quality of life, all further enhanced through socialisation and multidisciplinary team support. Recent research suggests that optimally prescribed exercise programmes following diagnosis may alter neurophysiological processes, slowing symptom progression.

Given its benefits, we encourage and motivate people with Parkinson’s to exercise regularly from the time of diagnosis and provide guidance on what exercise to do. At Paragon, working alongside the Bigger and Better team, we provide a range of classes designed specifically for those with Parkinson disease.

PD Circuits class combines Parkinson’s specific exercises with ‘traditional’ circuits style exercises to improve:

  • Balance

  • Speed

  • Co-ordination

  • Mobility

  •  Cardio and respiratory fitness

  •  Strength

  •  Confidence

The classes are also a fantastic way to build social interaction & friendships with those who have PD. To stop that feeling that ‘you are not alone’.

This class is run every Wednesday 1.45-2.45pm at Chase Meadows Community Centre Warwick.

Please get in contact if you or someone you know is fighting Parkinson’s and wants a bit help and support doing so.
